NBC has officially announced its lineup for the fall 2026-2027 television season, highlighting the broadcast premiere of "The Traitors." This updated schedule introduces new dramas and comedic series, while critically acclaimed reboots such as "The Rockford Files" and the fresh comedy "Sunset PI" are strategically slated for a midseason release. Esteemed mainstays, including the popular "Law & Order" and "One Chicago" franchises, will retain their established time slots, ensuring continuity for their dedicated viewership.
The adapted version of the popular competition series, "The Traitors," will showcase non-celebrity participants. Emmy-winning host Alan Cumming will guide the Faithful as they endeavor to expose the Traitors and secure the substantial $250,000 grand prize. This thrilling new series is set to air on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT, serving as the lead-in for "Law & Order: SVU," which will then be followed by "Law & Order" at 10 p.m. This strategic placement aims to leverage the established success of the legal dramas to introduce the new competition format to a broad audience.
Regarding "Law & Order," recent reports indicated uncertainty about its return for a 26th season, suggesting it was "on the bubble." However, Lisa Katz, President of Scripted Content at NBC & Peacock, clarified that these concerns were a "misrepresentation." She explained that the network was simply evaluating various programming slots and opportunities, making decisions based on scheduling logistics rather than performance issues. This reassures fans that the iconic series remains a vital part of NBC's programming strategy.
The network's popular "One Chicago" franchise will continue to dominate Wednesday nights. The evening will commence with "Chicago Med" at 8 p.m., followed by "Chicago Fire," and conclude with "Chicago P.D." This consistent scheduling reinforces the strong viewer base and interconnected narratives of these fan-favorite shows. Additionally, NBC is making room for two new dramas and two new comedies. The fresh drama "Line of Fire," starring Peter Krause and Hope Davis, will air on Mondays at 10 p.m. in September, immediately after a special two-hour episode of "The Voice," which marks the return of coach Kelly Clarkson. In October and November, "Line of Fire" will follow a one-hour episode of "The Voice," with the comedy "St. Denis Medical" airing at 8 p.m. The second season of "The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins" will move to Mondays at 8:30 p.m. during this period.
Another new addition, the multi-camera comedy "Newlyweds," featuring real-life couple Téa Leoni and Tim Daly, along with executive producer Jamie Lee Curtis, is scheduled for Fridays at 8:30 p.m., following new episodes of "Happy's Place." The decision to hold "The Rockford Files" reboot, starring David Boreanaz, and the new comedy "Sunset PI," from the creators of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici, for midseason was strategic. Both shows generated considerable anticipation during their pilot stages. NBC's president of program planning strategy explained that this decision was primarily due to the optimal time slots available in midseason, particularly for "Rockford Files," which is seen as a strong 8 p.m. contender. "Rockford Files" is expected to premiere in January, with "Sunset PI" following in February.
Further expanding its programming, NBC has also committed to a game show adaptation of "Wordle," hosted by "Today's" Savannah Guthrie. Other unscripted series returning in the summer include "America's Got Talent," "American Ninja Warrior," and "Password." Looking ahead, "Destination X" is confirmed for a 2027 return. Additionally, NBC will host the 78th Emmy Awards on September 14 from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The network's sports coverage remains robust, with the return of "Sunday Night Football" and various NBA regular season games starting in October. "Sunday Night Basketball" will begin mid-winter, followed by NBA playoffs and "Sunday Night Baseball" in the spring. NBC continues to be the home for college football, WNBA games, and MLB postseason wild card playoffs.
NBC is also preparing for a grand celebration of its 100th anniversary with a three-hour special on December 10, originating from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Additional specials include "The Americas: A Wild 250th," honoring the 250th anniversary of the United States, and "The Americas: Mother's Day" in 2027. These nature specials, executive produced by Mike Gunton and Holly Spearing for BBC Studios Natural History Unit, will explore iconic American wildlife and the profound aspects of animal motherhood, respectively, highlighting themes of resilience and ingenuity. The comprehensive fall schedule reflects NBC's commitment to delivering a diverse range of entertainment, from thrilling dramas and comedies to popular competition shows, live sports, and commemorative specials.
