Kelvin Harrison Jr. Joins Golden Globes Documentary Jury at Cannes

Renowned actor and producer Kelvin Harrison Jr. is set to join the esteemed jury for the Golden Globes Prize for Documentary, an initiative supported by the Artemis Rising Foundation, at the 79th Cannes Film Festival. In addition to his role as a juror, Harrison Jr. will have the honor of presenting this significant award, underscoring his dedication to narratives that resonate globally. His recent and forthcoming projects, including a voice role in "Mufasa: The Lion King," his portrayal of Jean-Michel Basquiat in "Samo Lives," and a starring role in "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping," showcase his diverse talents and influence in the entertainment industry.

The Golden Globes Prize for Documentary, now in its second year at Cannes, seeks to recognize filmmakers whose work exemplifies outstanding narrative prowess and makes substantial contributions to the documentary field, particularly in shedding light on critical worldwide and societal concerns. First established in 2025, this award has graced major international film festivals such as Cannes and Venice, symbolizing the shared commitment of the Golden Globes and the Artemis Rising Foundation to champion compelling documentary narratives on a global scale. Past recipients include Eugene Jarecki at the 78th Cannes Film Festival and Ross McElwee at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, with juries comprising distinguished figures from the film world.

This year's jury features an impressive lineup, including Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne, Academy Award-winning producer Regina K. Scully, who also founded the Artemis Rising Foundation, and Geralyn White Dreyfous, an Academy Award-winning producer and co-founder of Impact Partners. Danielle Turkov Wilson, founder and CEO of Think-Film Impact Production, also contributes her expertise. Finalists for the prize are filmmakers with entries in various sections of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, all demonstrating a consistent commitment to documentary filmmaking. Harrison Jr. will announce the winner at an exclusive event on May 18 at the Plage des Palmes, an evening that will feature a panel discussion, the award ceremony, and a reception celebrating the power of documentary cinema.
