The Writers Guild of America West's staff union has announced a groundbreaking provisional agreement, signaling the potential conclusion of a nearly three-month labor dispute. This tentative accord, reached with the unionized staff on Friday, marks a pivotal moment for both the Guild and its employees, promising to resolve a contentious period of negotiations.

This significant agreement addresses critical issues that fueled the dispute, including seniority provisions and a no-strike clause, which were once major points of contention. Furthermore, the deal guarantees a minimum 12 percent wage hike over three years, an immediate 8 percent raise for the entire bargaining unit in 2026, and elevates the salary floor from $43,000 to $57,000 annually, effective retroactively from August 2025. Additional benefits include long-service pay increases, protections related to AI, temporary workers, and contractors, and the establishment of a labor-management committee to enhance workplace communication.

The resolution follows a period of heightened tensions, characterized by picket lines, public accusations, and even the cancellation of the Guild's annual awards ceremony. The dispute saw staff union members accusing the WGA West of surveillance and improper termination, allegations the Guild denied.
