Michael B. Jordan recently showcased a diverse range of television projects at Amazon's upfront presentation in New York, underscoring his expanding role as a producer. His production company, Outlier Society, in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios, is set to bring forth three ambitious series: a biographical drama about boxing legend Muhammad Ali titled 'The Greatest,' a new installment in the 'Creed' universe called 'Delphi,' and a highly anticipated adaptation of the fantasy novel 'Fourth Wing.' This strategic move marks a significant step in Jordan's career, transitioning beyond acting to shape compelling narratives for a global audience through streaming.
The announcement commenced with Amazon's Peter Friedlander, head of TV, and Courtenay Valenti, film chief, emphasizing their strong collaborative relationship with Jordan and Outlier Society, led by president Elizabeth Raposo. Jordan then took the stage, expressing his profound personal connection to the Muhammad Ali project. 'The Greatest' is poised to be the first authorized series detailing Ali's extraordinary life, from his origins as Cassius Clay to his iconic boxing career. Lonnie Ali, the late boxer's wife, is serving as a consultant for the series, lending authenticity and depth. A key moment during the presentation was the introduction of Jaalen Best, the young actor cast to portray Ali, further building anticipation for the biopic.
Following this, Jordan delved into 'Delphi,' a spinoff from the successful 'Creed' film franchise. He reminisced about the initial collaboration with Ryan Coogler, who first envisioned him as Adonis Creed. 'Delphi' is scheduled to commence production on May 18 in Los Angeles, with showrunner Marco Ramirez joining Jordan on stage to discuss the project, promising a continuation of the beloved boxing saga's themes and dramatic intensity.
Concluding the presentation, Jordan revealed that the TV series adaptation of Rebecca Yarros' bestselling romantasy novel, 'Fourth Wing,' has officially received a series order. Outlier Society had foresightedly acquired the rights to 'The Empyrean' book series even before 'Fourth Wing's' publication in May 2023, subsequently developing it with Amazon. The show is now moving forward with Yarros and Jordan as executive producers, alongside showrunner Meredith Averill and director Lisa Joy of 'Westworld' fame, who will helm the inaugural episode. Their collective presence on stage highlighted the strong creative team behind this eagerly awaited fantasy adaptation.
In essence, Jordan's presentation at the Amazon upfront event demonstrated his formidable presence as a content creator. His commitment to diverse storytelling, spanning historical figures, established cinematic universes, and popular literary works, signals a vibrant future for his production endeavors and promises a rich slate of programming for Amazon's Prime Video platform.
