A star-studded event recently honored the acclaimed Fox series, “Best Medicine,” bringing together its cast, creators, and Academy members for a memorable evening. The celebration, hosted by The Hollywood Reporter, showcased the dramedy’s successful first season, which has already secured a second season renewal. Attendees enjoyed an exclusive screening, an engaging Q&A session with the talent, and a lively reception that beautifully blended the show's charming setting with festive elements.

The event commenced with a screening of the ninth episode, followed by a Q&A panel featuring lead actors Josh Charles, Annie Potts, Abigail Spencer, and Josh Segarra, alongside showrunner Liz Tuccillo and executive producers Ben Silverman and Rodney Ferrell. The discussion offered a glimpse into the creative process and the camaraderie among the cast and crew. Executive producer Ben Silverman shared his inspiration for adapting the beloved U.K. series “Doc Martin,” highlighting his personal connection to the original and his vision for an Americanized version that would resonate with new audiences. He emphasized the importance of high-quality source material and the necessity of exceptional talent to bring the adaptation to life.

Josh Charles, who portrays Dr. Martin Best, spoke about his decision to join the project, eager to explore a comedic role after a series of dramatic performances, including his work on “The Handmaid’s Tale.” He admitted to initially being unfamiliar with the global phenomenon that was “Doc Martin” but quickly became captivated by the concept after reviewing Liz Tuccillo’s scripts and watching several episodes of the original. His enthusiasm for the charming and unique premise ultimately sealed his involvement.

Annie Potts humorously recounted her casting experience, suggesting her age and continued ability to remember lines placed her in a select group. She expressed her unwavering commitment to her craft, asserting that retirement is not in her plans. The heartfelt bond among the cast was palpable throughout the evening, with Josh Segarra and Abigail Spencer sharing their favorite moments from the first season, both highlighting the wedding episode. Spencer became emotional as she revealed a personal family crisis she navigated during filming, praising the unwavering support she received from her colleagues, illustrating the true family atmosphere on set.

A delightful surprise unfolded during the Q&A when Wattson, the Kromfohrlander who plays Copernicus in the series, made a grand entrance in a tuxedo, stealing the show with his charming presence. Following the panel, guests moved to a reception area transformed to evoke the quaint, seaside ambiance of Port Wenn, complete with New England-inspired decorations and a lively Cinco de Mayo theme. The fictional restaurant, The Salty Breeze, provided a diverse menu, offering both classic New England fare like lobster rolls and baked beans, alongside Mexican street tacos, catering to all tastes. A DJ set the mood with a mix of popular hits and Selena’s music, while Sally’s Pharmacy, another nod to the show, offered a build-your-own candy bag station. The evening concluded with many guests eagerly interacting with the stars, securing photos and engaging in conversations, with Charles, Spencer, and Potts all graciously accommodating their fans.
